Environmental Justice Is Civil Rights

The Environmental Committee of the ATL NAACP Branch works to address environmental issues that disproportionately impact Black and underserved communities. From air and water quality to climate resilience and land use, we advocate for policies and practices that protect community health, safety, and sustainability.

Our work recognizes that environmental harm is often linked to racial and economic inequities. Communities of color are more likely to experience pollution, extreme heat, flooding, and limited access to green spaces. The Environmental Committee works to elevate these concerns, educate residents, and push for accountability and equitable environmental decision-making.

Through advocacy, education, and partnerships, the committee promotes environmental stewardship while advancing solutions that support healthier neighborhoods and a more sustainable Atlanta. We believe protecting the environment is essential to protecting lives, livelihoods, and future generations.
